Rae (second alto)

"I was fortunate to sing with this choir until 2015 when I moved to Jersey. I joined a choir there but it did not compare to the fantastic support, guidance and encouragement given by Paul, Martin and Meryl. I returned to Wales 8 years later and I hesitated in returning to the choir that I had enjoyed so much. With the effects of Covid, how would it change the choir, what would it be like? I need not have worried. The welcome and friendliness was still there as well as some of the choir members from before. Along with Paul, Martin and Meryl, anyone who loves to sing will be made to feel part of a fantastic community choir that performs to the highest standards. Come along and see and sing for yourself. You will not regret it."

"For me, Gwent Chorale represents friendship and fellowship with other choristers. Fellowship in that we work together, by singing together, to offer something that we can proudly present to an audience. Rehearsals are challenging and stretching at times, yet inspiring and rewarding. Sing some Verdi or Puccini, some Vaughan-Williams or John Rutter; sing in Latin, sing in Italian, sing some French or German - what's not to like?"

Diana

Diana (soprano)

"New to Wales sadly having lost my husband, and my confidence at rock bottom, Paul responded to my online enquiry for a singing teacher. At my first lesson, Paul encouraged me to work towards musical theatre exams and, having previously sung classical music, he suggested I join his choir, which would further improve my voice. Four days later I attended my first Gwent Chorale rehearsal, purchasing the score and was warmly welcomed including by Meryl our wonderful pianist. Paul's attention to detail paired with his quick, inimitable wit has led to many enjoyable evenings. It is exhilarating being surrounded by beautiful music, sounds we are creating together and friendships flourishing as a lovely bonus."

Kath

Kath (sopran0)

"My name is Kath. I am a stroke survivor and disabled. Gwent Chorale is a totally inclusive choir and joining it changed my life and has been a major part of my recovery. Singing with an amazing group of people has enhanced my life and brought back my enjoyment of music which I thought I'd lost forever because of my stroke. I have made new and lifelong friends and the breathing techniques I have learned have helped my asthma. My favourite performance was Vivaldi's Gloria and I also enjoyed the choir's performance in the Great Barn at Tredegar House amongst the agricultural equipment at Christmas!"
